Matrix / Runout (B-side run-out, stamped, variant 1): XEX 638-1 AOM 2. This listing is for a 1967 original true first pressing of The Beatles masterpiece recorded in the much rarer Mono format.
All of the above information is true and relevant to this item. The only difference from the original release is that the red and white psychedelic inner sleeve is not present. This is such a nice copy considering it's 50 years old and generally Beatles records of this age have usually been played to death and with little regard for preservation. If you are used to the Stereo version of this album then the Mono is a real treat as you will hear sounds and background vocals on certain tracks which were previously drowned out. As with all Beatles first pressings it goes without saying that they will forever be collectable and copies in this condition will only become rarer and more valuable so a great investment. Please check out my other listings for rare and unusual records from different genre's and more than often other Beatles related items. All of my records are play tested on a Project Debut Carbon with 2M Red stylus which is quite revealing so any sound defects may be more exaggerated than on other more mainstream players. Or conversely if you are a full on audiophile I will let you judge how your set up compares and how you envisage the sound will compare. I don't currently have access to a cleaning machine so please forgive any dust or finger marks which are on any of my records - hopefully will be investing in one at some point. This is at the top end of VG+ a really rare find.
In the context of Beatles first pressings this type of condition is extremely rare. There is a stunning glossy finish to both sides which really makes you question if it is indeed 50 years old, but I have no doubt about that all of the markings are present and correct. Side 1 I would class as NM as there is only the odd whisper line marks under very close scrutiny.
On Side 2 there are 2 scuffs which don't appear to be deep and don't affect play, probably just caught with the sleeve or a finger, and a few whisper lines from sleeve removal, so easily VG+. The labels are nice and bright with no pen marks, just the expected spindle marks under a bright light. There is a little surface noise on run in but being an early pressing the tracks don't really have a gap between them so is soon forgotten. In the quieter moments you may still hear some surface noise but nothing obtrusive. Although it looks to have been done already, a machine clean may still be needed to further improve this, but perfectly enjoyable as it is. The sound quality is fantastic and unique to the Mono pressing, and on some tracks its fascinating to hear certain sounds or background vocals which were previously drowned out by the Stereo format. Overall this item has been extremely well looked after and a testament to previous owners.
There is light shelf wear to the corners but the majority of the edges and spine are in great condition with the titles fully legible. There is only light ring wear when held up against a bright light. On the front cover there are a few creases to the laminate covering and in the centre a couple of small bubbles which you can only see up close and under a bright light.
The rear cover and inner gatefold picture are in great condition and no defects. The badges and moustache play set are present and in new and unused condition. As mentioned before this copy does not have a red and white inner sleeve just a plain white inner which is in good condition. As it says on the cover "This is a Mono recording and a splendid time is guaranteed for all" - couldn't put it better myself. All questions answered and offers considered.
